As an added safeguard, you may want to subscribe to a credit monitoring service through one of the major credit reporting companies (www.experian.com, www.equifax.com, www.transunion.com ) to receive alerts on any unusual activity that may occur on your credit report.
Here are some additional ways that you can help protect yourself against Identify Theft and potential unauthorized transactions on your account:
- Always be cautious about sharing personal information, such as Social Security numbers, passwords, user IDs and financial account information.
- Store and dispose of your personal information securely.
- Ask questions before deciding to share your personal information and never share information with anyone over the phone, email or text, even if they claim to be someone you know.
- Maintain appropriate security for your computers and other electronic devices.
